That list is the story on the Orlando side. Anthony Black (ankle) and Jonathan Isaac (knee) both sat out the opener. Noah Penda has a partially torn right hamstring. Izaiyah Nelson is still about a month away after offseason ankle surgery, according to team president Jeff Weltman. Each of those guys could have spent minutes on Edwards. Without them, Banchero and Wagner have to carry the offense and also absorb more of the defensive load against a guard who just dropped 9 threes.
Minnesota is playing without Donte DiVincenzo, who is out with an Achilles injury but has said he's confident he'll return at some point this season. In the opener the Wolves barely noticed. Ball's arrival changes who handles the ball next to Ant, and against Miami that meant Edwards got clean catch-and-shoot looks instead of having to create every possession himself.
The schedule is the same for both teams. Each played Wednesday and each gets 1 day off before Friday's 7:00 PM ET tip, and Minnesota's trip from Miami to Orlando is about as short as road trips get. Neither team plays in between, so the rotations that show up Friday should be the ones on the floor Wednesday, plus or minus whatever Orlando hears on Black and Isaac.
The matchup to watch is Edwards against whatever wing defense Orlando has left. Banchero showed he can score 35 against anyone, and the Magic's 38-point 3rd quarter proves they can get hot. But Orlando gave up 132 on its own floor to Atlanta, and Minnesota just scored 131 on a Miami team built around Giannis. If the Magic can't get stops, Banchero will need another 35 just to keep it close.
