Game 1 was a 104-102 Wolves heist that nobody had on the bingo card. Anthony Edwards was supposed to miss the first two games of this series with a hyperextended knee and bone bruise. Instead he dropped 18, including 11 in the fourth, and Minnesota stole homecourt 10 days after the injury. Now everyone wants to know if Ant's knee survives a 48-hour turnaround after only getting back on the floor a few days ago.

Wembanyama's stat line in Game 1 is a Rorschach test: 11 points, 15 boards, 12 blocks — the most blocks in any playoff game ever. Also 5-of-17 from the floor and 0-for-8 from three, the worst 0-fer from deep in Spurs postseason history. Wemby admitted afterward he 'mismanaged' his energy, burning gas chasing weakside swats that he needed for offense. Chris Finch, naturally, complained that at least four of those blocks were goaltends. Both things can be true.
The number to stare at is the spread. Vegas has the Spurs laying 9.5 at home off a loss, with the moneyline ballooning to -402. That's a market basically pricing in either no Edwards or a hobbled one, plus a massive bounce-back from Wemby. The total sits at 215.5, which tracks for a series where Game 1 didn't sniff 210.
Minnesota is also without Donte DiVincenzo for the rest of the run after his Achilles surgery, and Ayo Dosunmu (calf) is questionable, which is why Edwards keeps having to play hero ball even when his leg is screaming. The Wolves are 4-1 in their last 5; the Spurs are 3-2 and just dropped a series opener at home for only the second time in their last 17 tries. Finch's group has the better recent rhythm and the lead. San Antonio has the better player and a chip on its shoulder.

If Edwards is even 80%, the Wolves don't need him to win the night — they need him to draw two and let Jaden McDaniels and Julius Randle pick at the rotations Wemby vacates when he's helping. If Ant sits or gets pulled early, this turns into a long Wednesday in Texas real fast. Either way, the Spurs absolutely cannot lose this game. They will know it. So will the building.
