This one won't decide anything in the standings, but for a chunk of both rosters it's the last audition before final cuts.

This is Preseason Week 3, the finale for both clubs, which means Baker Mayfield and Trevor Lawrence are likely to see little to no action Friday. The real storyline is at backup quarterback, where Tampa Bay's Jalon Daniels and Jacksonville's Joey Aguilar — both undrafted rookies — are fighting for a practice-squad or 53-man spot with a real chance to log extended snaps.

Both franchises are coming off wildly different 2025s. Jacksonville won its last 8 games of the regular season to finish 13-4 and capture its first AFC South title in 3 years before falling 27-24 to Buffalo in the wild-card round. Tampa Bay started 6-2 and then cratered, dropping 7 of its next 8 to finish 8-9 and miss the playoffs for the first time since 2019 — a collapse that got Todd Bowles a viral late-season rant and cost offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard his job.

The bigger offseason story in Tampa is Mayfield's stalled extension. He's entering the last year of his deal and has publicly said talks aren't close, with a self-imposed deadline of training camp coming and going without a resolution. That uncertainty hangs over a Bucs offense that still features Chris Godwin as the presumptive No. 1 receiver and third-round rookie Ted Hurst auditioning for early snaps. Jacksonville, meanwhile, is leaning on continuity — Lawrence enters year 2 under Liam Coen sounding noticeably calmer, and Coen has praised the growing rapport between Lawrence and Brian Thomas Jr. on downfield shots.

Roster construction is the real subplot here. Jacksonville is monitoring Travis Hunter's knee and Jourdan Lewis' foot as camp wraps, while Chris Rodriguez's foot procedure has him ticketed for a full workload once camp opens. Tampa Bay has its own watch list, with Bucky Irving's shoulder and Benjamin Morrison's leg issue worth tracking, though neither has been ruled out for any camp reps.

Don't expect a Trevor Lawrence-Baker Mayfield shootout. Expect a game decided by fringe skill players and depth linemen trying to make a final impression before roster cuts, with the shape of each team's bench for Week 1 hanging in the balance.
