The Giants keep finding ways to win that don't look great but count the same. They beat Tennessee 12-7 on defense, with Arvell Reese making 13 tackles and Dru Phillips 11. Then they put up 36 on Arizona, and it came down to Deonte Banks picking off Jacoby Brissett on fourth-and-goal from the 4 and running it back 98 yards to seal the game. Winston hit Malachi Fields, Malik Nabers and Theo Johnson for touchdowns. Even so, the 2 picks are the risk you accept with him, and a Washington defense that just got run over by Taylor would love to get some takeaways of its own.
The form card doesn't flatter either side. New York's only loss was a 28-6 beating by the Rams, and its wins have come against Dallas, Tennessee and Arizona. Washington's lone win was a 33-31 shootout with Seattle, sitting between losses to Philadelphia and Dallas and the London game. The Commanders are a much different team with Daniels than without him. They gave Philadelphia a 24-22 game and beat Seattle at home, so this matchup comes down to whether Daniels plays.
Beyond the quarterbacks, the injury lists matter in specific spots. The Giants put Brian Burns on IR with a knee injury before the Titans game, and they've covered for him with tackling volume more than pressure. Braxton Berrios didn't finish the Arizona game with a foot injury, and Chauncey Golston and Jason Pinnock both carried questionable tags. Washington's secondary was banged up in London, with Tyler Owens (hamstring) and Jeremy Reaves (finger) both questionable to return and Nick Cross inactive, and guard Sam Cosmi has been inactive too. Even if Daniels plays, he might be throwing to Diggs with McLaurin and Lane both hurt.
The early forecast for Landover says mid-60s, clouds and light wind, which is normal football weather, though a week out it can still change. The game itself is simple. If Daniels plays and looks like himself, Washington's 1-3 record is mostly about who was playing quarterback. If he doesn't, the Giants get a rookie, or a quarterback with a sore knee, behind a beat-up line, and Winston gets the chance to put New York at 4-1 and in charge of the division.
