The last time these two teams met, Philadelphia walked off with a divisional-round classic that still stings in L.A. Eight months later, both sides are retooled and get a Week 5 rematch at the Linc.

The board's leaning Rams, and it's not hard to see why — Stafford now has 2 real difference-makers on the outside in Nacua and Adams, while Philadelphia's secondary has spent camp banged up and the Eagles just lost their longtime O-line coach. Sean McVay's history in this matchup is ugly, but this year's roster looks meaningfully better equipped to finally solve it. Philadelphia at a short home price still has plenty of juice with Hurts and Barkley, but the value tilts toward L.A.'s upgraded receiver room.

Rams
  • Added Davante Adams to pair with Nacua
  • Reached NFC Championship, 1 round further than Philly
  • Stafford reportedly closing in on extension
  • Stafford turns 38, long-term status still murky
  • Alaric Jackson managing recurring blood-clot issue
  • Just 1-6 under McVay vs this Eagles staff
Eagles
  • Reigning Super Bowl champs, Hurts entrenched at QB
  • Barkley healthy, pushing revamped under-center run game
  • 2-0 vs McVay's Rams under Sirianni
  • Title defense ended in Wild Card upset
  • Lost O-line coach Stoutland after 10-plus years
  • Secondary down 3 regulars in camp practices

Matthew Stafford and Jalen Hurts have both had this one circled since that playoff heartbreak. Stafford, who turns 38 during the season and is reportedly closing in on a contract extension, has spent camp building chemistry with a retooled receiver room — Puka Nacua working through some groin soreness but expected back for the preseason slate, and free-agent addition Davante Adams giving Stafford 2 legitimate No. 1 options for the first time in years. On the other sideline, Hurts is running it back with a new-look staff after Philadelphia's title defense ended early, breaking in new OC Sean Mannion's scheme and a receiver room that no longer includes A.J. Brown.

The bigger camp story in Philly might be up front and in the secondary. The Eagles are without longtime offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland for the first time in over 10 years, and this week's practices have come without corners Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean and defensive back Jonathan Jones, all banged up. Saquon Barkley, healthy, has been pushing the staff for more under-center runs, the identity Philadelphia wants to lean back into. The early line treats this as close to a coin flip, with L.A. installed as modest favorites for what it's worth.

L.A.'s own offensive line isn't without questions either — left tackle Alaric Jackson has been in and out of practice managing a recurring blood-clot issue, which matters plenty if Stafford is going to hold up behind an aging pocket. Sean McVay, for his part, knows the history here well: Philadelphia has beaten his Rams in both meetings since Nick Sirianni took over, including that January defeat, and this trip east is his chance to finally flip the trend.

Neither team got where it wanted to go in 2025 — Philadelphia's title defense ended in a Wild Card upset to the 49ers, while the Rams pushed 1 round further before Seattle knocked them out in the NFC Championship on the way to a Super Bowl title of their own. That gap is part of why L.A. arrives with slightly more respect this early in the process, even with Philadelphia retooling pieces on both sides of the ball.

Plenty can change between now and Sunday, October 4 — 6 games apiece before either team even boards a plane for this one, including joint practices, preseason snaps and whatever roster churn August still has coming. But on paper, this is a rematch worth circling: 2 teams that fell just short last winter, running it back with retooled rosters for a 1:00 PM ET kickoff.
