TLDR: The Ravens come to Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday night without knowing who's playing quarterback. The Falcons, meanwhile, just ran for 5 touchdowns on Monday Night Football and look like a different team than the one that started 0-2.

Baltimore visits Atlanta on Sunday night with Lamar Jackson's ankle unresolved: Jesse Minter says it isn't long-term, but Tyler Huntley is the starter if Jackson sits. The Falcons have scored 35 and 45 in back-to-back wins behind Bijan Robinson and Brian Robinson Jr., while the Ravens are shorthanded on the interior offensive line and missing Trey Hendrickson. The game likely comes down to whether Baltimore's line and defense can hold up against Atlanta's ground game, with or without Jackson.

Baltimore Ravens
  • Flowers hot: 8 catches, 118 yards vs Titans
  • Huntley steady in relief, 8-of-9 passing
  • Minter says Jackson's ankle not long-term
  • Jackson questionable, left stadium in walking boot
  • Pocic and Gwyn on IR, Vorhees hurt
  • Hendrickson out, Humphrey left with calf injury
Atlanta Falcons
  • Rushed for 207 yards and 5 TDs vs Saints
  • Penix efficient: 15-of-20, 223 yards Monday
  • Have scored 35 and 45 in last 2 games
  • Matthews (groin) and Za'Darius Smith (concussion) left Monday
  • Lost 34-3 at home to Carolina in Week 2
  • Played Monday night, so 1 less day to prepare

It starts and ends with Lamar Jackson's right ankle. Jackson got hurt at the end of the first half of the 24-18 win over Tennessee, and he reportedly left M&T Bank Stadium in a walking boot. On Monday, Jesse Minter wasn't offering much: "I don't know the chances yet," he said, adding that the staff was still gathering imaging. Minter also said he doesn't expect it to be "crazy long-term," and Ian Rapoport reported Jackson is believed to be day-to-day. If Jackson can't go, Tyler Huntley starts. Huntley went 8-of-9 for 63 yards and ran 4 times for 16 in relief against the Titans. That's tidy, but it's also a backup managing a lead, not a starter carrying a game plan for 60 minutes on Sunday Night Football.

On the other side, Michael Penix Jr. is playing efficient, low-drama football. He went 15-of-20 for 223 yards and a touchdown in the 45-24 win in New Orleans, and he threw for 256 against Green Bay the week before while Drake London went for 194 on 9 catches. The Falcons don't need Penix to be a hero right now. They need him to keep defenses honest while the backfield does the damage, and lately that's exactly what he's done.

That backfield is the story in Atlanta. Bijan Robinson ripped off a 59-yard touchdown on the third snap Monday and finished with 145 yards and 2 scores. Brian Robinson Jr. added 3 touchdowns, and the Falcons outrushed the Saints 207 to 50. Remember, this is a team that lost 34-3 at home to Carolina in Week 2. Since then they've scored 35 and 45. Whatever was wrong in September, the run game has fixed most of it.

Even if Jackson plays, Baltimore's injury report runs deep. The interior of the line is getting thin: center Ethan Pocic and guard Jovaughn Gwyn both went on injured reserve, Andrew Vorhees didn't return against Tennessee with a foot injury, and Ronnie Stanley is managing a toe. That's a lot of shuffling up front for a team built on Derrick Henry, who needed 23 carries to get 73 yards last week. On defense, Trey Hendrickson is out and Marlon Humphrey left the Titans game with a calf injury, and they're 2 guys you'd want against an offense that just hung 45 points. Atlanta took hits of its own Monday. Jake Matthews left with a groin injury, Za'Darius Smith left with a concussion, and both will be worth watching on this week's practice reports.

Both teams have won 2 straight, and they have 1 opponent in common: the Saints beat Baltimore 24-17 in Baltimore, then Atlanta ran them out of their own building. Meanwhile, the Ravens' passing game is still producing. Zay Flowers caught 8 balls for 118 yards and a score against Tennessee, and Mark Andrews caught a touchdown too. Kickoff is 8:20 PM ET under the roof, and most of what matters will be settled by Friday's injury report. A healthy Jackson makes this a heavyweight Sunday nighter. With Huntley under center behind a patched-up line, it's Atlanta's run game against a defense missing pieces.
