TLDR: The last time these clubs met, Calgary scored 6 on Seattle in front of its home crowd. On Wednesday, November 4, the Kraken get the rematch at Climate Pledge Arena, and they've had days to think about it.
Calgary lost 2-6-0 against the Pacific heading into November, and it plays San Jose before this one, while Seattle has been resting at home since its 6-2 loss in Calgary. The Flames have scored in bunches at home and barely at all on the road. The Kraken win at Climate Pledge but have given up at least 3 goals in 5 straight. Injuries hit both sides: Seattle is without McCann and Melanson, and Calgary is without Zary, Huberdeau and backup goalie Cooley.
Calgary has one game to play first: a trip to San Jose on Monday, November 2. Seattle sits idle until puck drop at 7:00 PM PT. So whatever the Flames look like right now can change before Wednesday. The Sharks game decides whether Calgary arrives in Seattle on a bounce-back win or with 2 straight losses, and it will cost the Flames a night of legs and a travel leg that the Kraken don't have to deal with. Seattle's last game was the 6-2 loss in Calgary, so the Kraken have had nearly a full week to let it sting.
Both clubs are thin. Seattle lost Jared McCann to a lower-body injury, and the team expects him to miss about 10 weeks. Jacob Melanson is out indefinitely with a serious upper-body injury, and Ryan Lindgren went on IR in early October with a 4-to-6-week timeline, so he's somewhere between close and not yet. Calgary is missing Connor Zary and has Jonathan Huberdeau on IR with a hip. Huberdeau has skated with the team but isn't close to returning, according to QR Calgary 770 AM's Pat Steinberg. Brennan Othmann is day-to-day, and goalie Devin Cooley on IR puts a dent in the crease depth.
The board isn't up yet, and it shouldn't be while Calgary still has San Jose in front of it. The Flames who show up in Seattle aren't fully known, and neither is who starts in goal. Look at it again once Monday's result is in.
Calgary's season comes down to home and road. All 3 of its wins in the recent 5-game stretch came in Calgary, and they weren't close: 4-1 over Detroit, 5-2 over Toronto and the 6-2 over Seattle. Away from home it got shut out 4-0 in Edmonton and lost 5-2 in Colorado. The Flames went into November at 2-6-0 against the Pacific, per The Hockey Writers. Clearly they can score. They just haven't done it consistently, and they haven't done it on the road.
Seattle has been the opposite: good results at home, but leaky. The Kraken went 3-1 in their last 4 at Climate Pledge, and 2 of those wins were 1-goal games over Detroit and Toronto. They've also allowed at least 3 goals in each of their last 5, and without McCann the scoring has to come from further down the lineup. The Hockey Writers singled out Farabee and Gridin as Calgary's bright spots heading into the week. If the Flames' road offense finally wakes up, it'll probably come from those two.
