Seattle is in a much better place. The Kraken are 4-2-0, have won 2 straight as of Sunday, and went into Washington averaging 4.20 goals per game, 3rd-best in the NHL. They scored 5 against the Capitals anyway. Kaapo Kakko, Jordan Eberle, Frederick Gaudreau, Jared McCann and Ryan Winterton all scored, and 5 different goal scorers is the kind of depth Philadelphia hasn't come close to.
The Kraken have some problems of their own. They gave up 6 at home to Vegas a week ago, and they're doing it without Ryan Lindgren, who went on IR with an upper-body injury and is expected to miss 4 to 6 weeks. Losing a defenseman who blocks shots and makes life hard in front of the net hurts a team that likes to play fast. Jacob Melanson is out indefinitely after being diagnosed with an anterior mediastinum hematoma with a vascular pseudo aneurysm, which is bigger than hockey. Joey Daccord has been steady in net and went into Washington with a .911 save percentage.
For Philadelphia, this comes down to whether the forwards can start scoring. The only goal in the 5-1 loss at Boston came from Porter Martone, and Jeremy Swayman needed just 14 saves. That's not a team getting robbed by a hot goalie. It's a team barely getting shots on net. With Konecny out, more of the scoring falls on young players like Martone. Seattle's road offense has been doing what Philadelphia's offense can't, and the Flyers' best hope is that home ice and a Carolina game behind them finally produce a different result.
