San Jose's answer starts and ends with Celebrini. The Sharks opened with 1-goal home wins over Florida and Los Angeles. Then Celebrini was scratched after warmups in Dallas and the team lost 5-0, putting only 13 shots on Jake Oettinger. Ryan Warsofsky called it day-to-day, but he also said this was "something we've been trying to manage here a little bit," so it is not a fresh tweak. San Jose also plays in St. Louis before this one, and that game should tell us a lot about whether Celebrini is in for Saturday.
These are two very different Sharks teams. With Celebrini, San Jose beat a Florida team and a Kings team in close games at home. Without him in Dallas, the offense barely registered, and Ty Dellandrea took his spot in the lineup. Edmonton's games have been wild: 11 goals in the opener, 16 in the Vancouver rematch, then 4 and 7. If Celebrini plays, San Jose has someone who can trade chances with McDavid and Draisaitl. If he doesn't, the Sharks will need to keep this a low-event game.
Both injury lists are long, but they hurt in different ways. Edmonton is missing depth: Hyman's net-front game, Nugent-Hopkins at center and a starting goalie, with plenty of top-end scoring still in the lineup. San Jose's list is mostly bottom-roster players like Gaudette, Barre-Boulet, Musty, Lund and Keyser, plus the one player the team is built around. Puck drop is 1:00 PM PT on Saturday, October 10, and the most important thing to watch before then is Celebrini's status coming out of St. Louis.
