Aaron Donald's comeback clock is still ticking

It's been a year and a half since Aaron Donald walked away from the Rams as a 3-time Defensive Player of the Year with 111 sacks and a Super Bowl ring, and somehow the offseason storyline everyone still can't shake is whether the greatest defensive tackle of his generation is coming back. Camp is underway at Loyola Marymount, but the Donald question hasn't gone anywhere — it's just been put on hold.

Adam Schefter laid out exactly why nothing's breaking loose right now: McVay doesn't expect Donald to make any kind of decision until the team packs up from Loyola Marymount and heads back to its actual home facility in Woodland Hills on Aug. 8. That's the checkpoint. Until then, this is a treadmill story — lots of movement, no finish line.

What makes it worth watching instead of dismissing as offseason noise is that McVay isn't playing coy about the direction things are trending. "Things are going in the right direction. If there's an arrow, it's trending upward," he said — not exactly a guy trying to lower expectations.
