Stool After Dark: Jersey Jerry vs. the Hammond SWAT Team

TLDR: The new Stool After Dark episode puts Jersey Jerry, Mook and White Sox Dave in a paintball fight with the Hammond SWAT Team, and OhioTate admits he promoted the edited video as if it were live.

Gamers vs. cops was always going to end badly for the gamers, and the clips show it happening fast.

Hot start for Jersey Jerry!

So yes, "hot start" is sarcasm. In that clip the Barstool side is getting picked off before the real opponents have even been introduced. One player walks off saying he got hit in the stomach. Mook, in a grey hoodie with his name on screen, says flat out that he's out. Then the lineup comes in: 5 guys in olive uniforms and full tactical gear, people whose actual job is clearing buildings. It's the matchup you'd expect when a crew that mostly fights through a headset goes up against a real tactical unit.

The course sets the tone too. It has bunkers, a junked school bus, wrecked cars and a 2-story building, which makes it look like a level out of a shooter game. That's the joke behind the whole episode. Put guys who play these games for a living on a real map with real people shooting back, and find out how much of it carries over.

The Leroy Jenkins caption fits. Running straight into open ground against a SWAT team is exactly the kind of reckless charge that meme is about, and you can probably guess how it worked out. Mook taking his share of shots isn't new either. 3 weeks earlier on Telluride Bush Gaming, Jersey Jerry was already roasting him for disappearing on the squad.

“We're waiting on Mook for an hour, and then he just goes dark. Mook's gotta get it together, man.” – Jersey Jerry

White Sox Dave, for his part, seems to have had a great time out there and is calling it a return to close quarters combat.

It was great to finally taste close quarters combat again on @StoolAfterDark

Then there's the rollout. Stool After Dark is OhioTate's Tuesday night stream, where he takes on challenges and normally keeps the stream going until they're finished. So when "Gamers vs SWAT Team is live now" went out at 8pm ET on a Tuesday, people expected a live show. It wasn't one. About 35 minutes later Tate owned up to it.

Fuck dude I literally forgot to mention it’s a shorter, condensed, edited video that we’re testing to see how it goes. That’s on me 🙋🏻‍♂️

@OhioTate Your dumbass promoted it like an after dark stream. Why didn’t you just say it was a short video?

Give him credit for saying so right away. The key part is in that tweet: this shorter, condensed, edited cut is a test "to see how it goes." That makes this episode a trial run for a different Stool After Dark format, a tight edited video instead of an hours-long live grind. If the numbers on the SWAT episode hold up, expect more of these. Next time he'll probably mention it's edited before he says it's live.
