Wake Up Barstool Plants The Flag In Hammond

While every other outlet hot-takes the Bears stadium saga from a studio, Clicky and WSD actually drove to Hammond, Indiana — and got the boot for their trouble.

The Bears stadium sweepstakes has been the dumbest, longest-running soap opera in Chicago sports for years now. Arlington Heights was supposed to be the lock. Then it wasn't. Then the city was back in. Now Hammond, Indiana — yes, Indiana — is suddenly in the mix, and the reactions are landing exactly how you'd expect from a fanbase that's been jerked around for half a decade.

Sick to my stomach over the bears not going to Arlington heights . Honestly thinking about selling the house. Wanted it to be Arlington heights so bad.

That's the temperature. Selling the house. Threatening to sell the house. The idea that the Bears might cross state lines to plop down a stadium in a Northwest Indiana truck-lot neighborhood is genuinely hard to process for people who've spent the last 100 years associating this franchise with the city of Chicago. So while the rest of sports media yelled about it from a desk, Wake Up Barstool did the obvious thing: they got in a car.

The premise is pure Barstool — turn a real news story into a road trip bit and let the chaos write itself. WSD apparently took one look at Hammond and rated it a 10. Turani, accurately, was less enthused. The whole thing was being broadcast live from what looked like the loneliest stretch of asphalt in the Midwest.

Of course, you cannot stand around filming on private-ish property near a potential billion-dollar stadium site forever. Eventually somebody with a badge shows up and asks you to leave. That's exactly what happened, and it became the punchline of the whole segment — a Road to Hammond countdown clock that ended with security walking the crew off the lot.

The Hammond field trip ends the only way it could — escorted out.

And that's the part Clem zeroed in on. For all the takes flying around about whether the Bears should leave Chicago, leave Illinois, build in Arlington, build on the lakefront, or build in a Hammond cornfield, exactly one outlet bothered to put a microphone on the actual ground at the actual site.

Clem with the kill shot on every other outlet covering this story from a studio chair.

There has been a sickening amount of posturing about the Bears stadium yet only one media company has boots on the ground at the potential new location

Whether Hammond ends up being a real option or just a leverage play to squeeze Illinois for a better deal, the bit worked. Wake Up Barstool got the footage, got the chyron, got kicked out, and got the only on-location coverage of a story everyone else is happy to argue about from 200 miles away. That's the whole job.
