The Brewers made a roster move on July 10 that barely registers as news on its own but says a lot about where Milwaukee's head is at right now. Right-hander Easton McGee got designated for assignment, and the corresponding moves tell the real story: Milwaukee signed veteran righty Bryse Wilson to a big-league deal and optioned lefty Drew Rom to Triple-A Nashville to make it all fit on the 40-man.
MLB Trade Rumors confirmed the move Friday afternoon.

McGee's Brewers tenure was never exactly a headline act. He joined Milwaukee in November 2023 after Tommy John surgery ended his time with the Mariners, and last season he got five short big-league stints totaling 14 2/3 innings, allowing 9 runs on 15 hits. Not exactly a resume that buys patience, and 2026 didn't help his case.
The 28-year-old threw all of 2 MLB innings this year and spent most of the season struggling in Nashville, where he posted a 5.62 ERA (6.09 xERA) over 41 2/3 innings with his fastball velocity down nearly a full mph from where it used to sit. That's the kind of trend line that gets a guy squeezed off the roster the moment the front office wants to add a name.
That name is Bryse Wilson, a familiar face reuniting with the organization, giving Milwaukee another arm option as they keep tinkering with pitching depth heading toward the deadline. The Brewers have made a habit of grinding through fringe roster spots all year rather than standing pat, and this is just the latest churn.
For McGee, the clock is now the story. Milwaukee has a week to either trade him or run him through waivers, and since he's already been outrighted once earlier in his career, clearing waivers this time would let him elect free agency instead of accepting another outright assignment. Not a great spot for him personally, but a pretty normal July for a contending team clearing space.
