Miami cut ties with transfer receiver Cam Vaughn just months before the season, and Mario Cristobal isn't saying why.

Cam Vaughn's time at Miami is over before it really started. Mario Cristobal confirmed the wide receiver has been dismissed from the program, a stunning fall from a guy who was supposed to add a legit deep threat to the Hurricanes' offense this fall.

Miami WR Cam Vaughn has been dismissed from the program, per Mario Cristobal. Posted 35 catches for 541 yards last season at West Virginia. https://t.co/2E6VeYE7PM

Vaughn transferred to Miami from West Virginia back in January, arriving with real production attached to his name. Last season with the Mountaineers he caught 35 passes for 541 yards and 4 touchdowns, averaging 15.5 yards a catch, per ESPN. That's the profile of a guy who's supposed to stretch a defense, not get shown the door in fall camp.

Cristobal broke the news himself, dropping it during a Monday appearance on Miami radio station WQAM, and he wasn't exactly forthcoming with details. His entire explanation, per ESPN, amounted to "wish him the best." No reason given, no context on what led to it, nothing. Just a clean, quiet cut.

That silence is the whole story right now. Programs don't dismiss a receiver with a 35-catch, 541-yard season on his resume for nothing, and Cristobal's refusal to elaborate is going to fuel speculation until more comes out. Reports have also indicated Vaughn had slipped down the depth chart, working mostly with Miami's third-team offense during camp, so the on-field fit clearly wasn't clicking even before whatever prompted the dismissal.

For Miami, it's one more subtraction in a fall camp that's already thinned out the receiver room. For Vaughn, it's a second program in less than a year that he'll be looking to move on from, with the transfer portal likely his next stop if he wants to keep playing in 2026. Either way, don't expect Cristobal to say much more about it until he absolutely has to.
