Cowboys Rule Out Overshown, Hooker, 2 More For Brazil

Dallas is flying to Rio de Janeiro with a patched-up defense. On Thursday, before the plane even left, the Cowboys ruled out CB Cobie Durant, S Malik Hooker, S P.J. Locke and LB DeMarvion Overshown for Sunday's Week 3 game against Baltimore. All 4 missed practice Wednesday and Thursday, and all 4 are staying home.

The #Cowboys have ruled out CB Cobie Durant, S Malik Hooker, S P.J. Locke and LB DeMarvion Overshown for Sunday. They won’t travel to Brazil for the game against the #Ravens.

Here's what each of them has. Overshown is still rehabbing a hamstring after starting the opener and playing 51 defensive snaps. Hooker fractured his forearm in Week 1 against the Giants and only got 12 snaps in before that. Durant hurt his hamstring in last Sunday's win over Washington after starting both games. Locke tore the plantar fascia in his foot in that same Washington game, in his first start of the year. Brian Schottenheimer has already said Durant and Locke could miss multiple weeks, so this isn't a 1-game problem.

That's 2 starting safeties, a starting corner and a starting linebacker, all gone from 1 unit. The Cowboys will be leaning on depth in the back end for a trip to the Maracana, and the whole thing kicks off Sunday at 3:25 p.m. CT on CBS. Good news for Dallas: OLB James Houston is expected to play.

The bright side is that Baltimore has its own injury list to deal with. Zay Flowers hurt his hamstring in the first half of the opener in Indianapolis, and he still wasn't practicing Thursday.

Flowers matters more than a normal WR2. According to the team's own site, the Ravens scored 4 touchdowns on 5 drives while he was on the field and 3 touchdowns on 16 drives since. LT Ronnie Stanley is also hurt. He injured his toe in the 4th quarter of the loss to the Saints and missed practice again, which put backup Carson Vinson on the field. Unlike the Cowboys, though, Baltimore isn't ruling anyone out yet.

On the other side of this game, #Ravens WR Zay Flowers and T Ronnie Stanley are traveling to Brazil. So no final word on their status is coming today.

Both of them getting on the plane is the story on Baltimore's side. The Ravens will land in Rio, get a Friday practice in and file a final injury report before anyone knows whether Flowers and Stanley play. Dallas already knows who it won't have. Baltimore is still hoping to get its 2 guys back, and if Flowers ends up suiting up, the Cowboys' short-handed secondary is going to get tested right away.
