Dana Beers tries fried cheesecake at Texas State Fair

TLDR: Dana Beers took his Dana Tries series to the State Fair of Texas on Red River weekend and got a fried cheesecake, as part of a sponsored DraftKings segment that dropped hours before Texas-Oklahoma kicked off.
The setup is about as simple as Barstool content gets: a night on the fair midway, a red-checkered paper boat and a fork.
There's no news angle here, so let's not pretend there is one. It's a #DKPartner segment, and Barstool put it out on every account it has the same afternoon. You aren't watching this for analysis. You're watching a fried dessert with cherry topping get eaten under fair lights, and the midway gets a real reaction out of the Texas flags on every food stand. The State Fair of Texas is one of the few places in America where fried cheesecake counts as one of the safer orders.
The timing is the point. The Red River Rivalry is played at the Cotton Bowl, which sits inside the fairgrounds, so the fair and the game come as a package. Saturday, October 10 is the 97th straight year the rivalry has been played there. Kickoff was set for 2:30 p.m. CT, with Texas coming in 4-0 and ranked No. 1 and Oklahoma at 2-2. A DraftKings food segment from the midway on game weekend writes itself.
Dana Tries has been around long enough to have become a bit inside the building. Back in September, during a Barstool Gambling stream, someone in the room was already riffing on what the series could possibly cover next.
On a Barstool Gambling stream, a voice in the room jokes that the next Dana Tries might be a salad.
That's the joke, and the fair is the answer. There's no salad on the Texas midway. Dana is also a regular on Wake Up Barstool, where he's spent the fall picking Big Ten games next to T-Bob and Michael Kadek. For a guy who spends Saturdays on college football, fried food in the shadow of the Cotton Bowl is close to home turf.
What to watch next: the fair runs for another week after Red River weekend, and as long as Dana Tries comes with a DraftKings tag, Barstool has every reason to keep him going down the menu. The cheesecake looked like it held together on the fork, which by State Fair standards is a win. The rest of the menu still isn't covered, and nobody should be expecting a salad.
