Rewind to Week 14 last season and Daniel Jones' year ends on the turf against the Jaguars with a torn right Achilles, the kind of injury that usually erases a full offseason and then some. Surgery followed, then a 6-to-8 month grind that had him basically living at the Colts facility, rehabbing his body and re-learning the offense at the same time. Fast forward to camp in 2026 and the guy is out there hitting play-action rollouts and scrambling like nothing ever happened.
That's not just Colts homers talking either. NFL analyst Benjamin Solak watched Jones work and came away stunned enough to say it out loud on SportsCenter.
"If you didn't tell me that this was a hurt QB, I wouldn't know this is a hurt QB" is about as strong an endorsement as an outside evaluator can give a guy 8 months removed from a ruptured Achilles. It lines up with what's been coming out of Indianapolis all camp — teammates and coaches describing a quarterback who looks like he never left, not one still working his way back.
Jones re-signed with the Colts back in March, betting on himself to prove last year's stretch of play before the injury wasn't a fluke. Indianapolis is betting alongside him, with a QB room that also includes Riley Leonard and Anthony Richardson Sr. still shaking out behind him. If the Achilles holds up the way it looks like it will, Jones gives the Colts a real answer at the position instead of another offseason question mark.
That recovery is also turning heads outside football circles now, specifically in fantasy. Hayden Winks flagged the discount angle that comes with a QB who's still shaking off some injury-cloud skepticism from drafters.
Winks' logic is simple: if Jones is anywhere close to 90% of the version who was playing well before the injury, he's being drafted like a much bigger risk than he actually is right now. Add in weapons like Tyler Warren and Josh Downs and a Colts offense that wants to run the ball and play-action off it, and the whole equation starts looking like value across the board — not just at quarterback.
None of this means much until Jones takes a hit in a live game and the Achilles gets tested for real. But every camp rep where he plants, cuts and scrambles without hesitation is a good sign for a Colts team that needs its $40-million-plus bet on him to actually pay off in 2026.
