Eddie dedicates Bears win over Patriots to Dave Portnoy

TLDR: Eddie went straight to his phone after the Bears beat the Patriots on Thursday Night Football, dedicated the win to Dave Portnoy, and Dave answered within minutes that it's still apple picking season.

Eddie is a Bears guy and Dave is a Patriots guy, so a Thursday night at Soldier Field was always going to end with one of them talking. Eddie got to talk.

Big Bears W over the Patriots I’d like to dedicate the win to @stoolpresidente I have serious concerns for Patriot Nations leader

The 'serious concerns for Patriot Nation's leader' bit is pure mock sympathy. That's the move after your team wins: you don't gloat, you act worried about the other guy. And Dave walked into this one. On the day of the game he went after Caleb Williams on X, calling the Bears QB's texting while driving 'extremely reckless' and telling Ben Johnson to deal with it. It was Dave's second public shot at Williams this season, after he called him a 'thespian' over a hamstring injury in September. Poke the Bears QB on game day, lose the game, and the guy in the Bears hat gets the last word on Thursday night.

Dave didn't let it sit long, though. He quote-tweeted Eddie's video 3 minutes later with 5 words.

'Still apple picking season' is the most Dave way to shrug off a loss: it's October, calm down. Nobody hands out trophies in Week 7. The trouble is that Dave spent most of this month telling everyone the Patriots' schedule was free money, and the Bears game was the one he flagged ahead of time.

“The Jets stink, win. Bears very tough. Dolphins, Packers win. That's guaranteed four out of the next five.” – Dave Portnoy

To be fair to Dave, 'Bears very tough' was the one game on that list he didn't call a win. That was on Wake Up Barstool on October 5, the morning after New England beat Buffalo, when he was saying this team would win the division and look like a Super Bowl contender again. Calling the Bears tough doesn't stop Eddie from treating the result like a personal win, and it won't stop the Bears fans in Dave's mentions either.

Next up is whether Dave keeps it to apple picking or comes back with something bigger once the Patriots win again. With Eddie, the first one to go quiet loses, and Dave has never gone quiet.
