Gruden Family Football Show Premieres Today With Jon, Jay Gruden and Kayce Smith

Jon and Jay Gruden are putting the brotherly trash talk on camera every Thursday, with Kayce Smith running point on a new Barstool NFL show that debuted September 10.

Barstool has been building to this since it announced Jay Gruden's hire back in July, and today the wait ended: the Gruden Family Football Show is officially live. Jon teased the launch on his account hours before it dropped, and by the afternoon the full episode was out breaking down Week 1 of the NFL season.

The pairing makes sense on paper. Jon has been Barstool's resident football brain since signing on in 2024, reviving his old "Gruden's QB Class" tape breakdowns and popping up regularly on Wake Up Barstool. Jay brings the coaching resume from the other sideline of his career — a run as Washington's head coach and years as an NFL offensive coordinator — plus a little media reps from hosting Clean Pocket before that show got shut down. Dave Portnoy called the hire a "power move" when it was announced, and pairing two coaches who happen to be brothers for instant chemistry is exactly the kind of bet a show like this needs.
Kayce Smith is the one holding it together in studio, and she made sure to point out who was missing from the launch photos.

"Not pictured: Jay. Typical younger brother treatment," Smith wrote — the kind of sibling ribbing that's presumably the whole appeal of putting two Grudens on a set together every week. She also confirmed the show is taping out of Tampa and airing every Thursday, which lines it up as a weekly companion piece to Sunday's slate rather than a one-off launch stunt.
The debut episode itself leaned into that dynamic — Jon at the whiteboard drawing up X's and O's for Week 1, Smith fronting the studio setup with the show's Chevrolet-branded set behind her.
Jon Gruden@BarstoolGrudenThe first Gruden Family Football Show is coming out TODAY! Join myself, my brother @Coach_JayGruden and @KayceSmith as we break down everything for Week 1 of NFL action! You will not want to miss it!!!! @GrudenFamilyFS
It's a low-risk, potentially high-reward swing for Barstool: two brothers with actual coaching pedigree, a host who already knows how to run a football set, and a weekly slot that gives the site a standing NFL property to build around all season. Whether it becomes appointment viewing or just another Thursday scroll depends on whether the Gruden banter translates once the newness wears off — but for a Week 1 launch, Barstool got exactly the noise it wanted.
