Hunter Henry signs two-year Patriots extension

The Patriots made sure their most reliable red-zone target stays in Foxboro. Hunter Henry agreed to a two-year extension that keeps him in New England through what will be his 11th NFL season and sixth with the Patriots, closing the book on any offseason speculation about his future before it even started.

Adam Schefter had the numbers first: 2 years, $16 million on the base, worth up to $20 million with $14.5 million guaranteed and a $4.2 million signing bonus. That's real money for a 31-year-old tight end, but Henry's production backs it up — he posted a career-high 768 receiving yards in 2025 and has caught 40-plus passes in every single season he's been in New England, the second-longest streak at the position in franchise history.

This wasn't a guy limping to the finish line either. Henry ranks third all-time among Patriots tight ends in receptions with 259, and since 2016 he's fifth leaguewide among tight ends in touchdown catches. For a Patriots offense still figuring itself out around Drake Maye, Henry has been one of the few constants — a security blanket in crucial moments who head coach Mike Vrabel has praised for his instincts and feel for the game.

New England did add rookie tight end Eli Raridon in this year's draft, so the room isn't just Henry anymore. But locking him up on a fresh two-year deal signals the Patriots want continuity at the position rather than handing the reins to an unproven rookie right away. For a team trying to build stability around a young quarterback, keeping a proven veteran chain-mover in the fold is about as low-risk a move as it gets.
