The Texans just made life miserable for every quarterback on their 2026 schedule. Jadeveon Clowney is returning to Houston, the team that drafted him first overall back in 2014, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. It's a full-circle moment for the guy whose bull rushes used to make Reliant Stadium shake, and now he's walking back into a building that already has two of the best edge rushers in the league.
Clowney isn't walking into a rebuild project, either. He's slotting in next to Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter, and the internet noticed immediately. Anderson was a first-team All-Pro last season, Hunter racked up 15 sacks of his own, and now you're adding a 3-time Pro Bowler who just posted a career-high 3-sack game in Week 18 against the Giants on his way to 8.5 sacks with Dallas. That's not a depth signing, that's a war crime against opposing tackles.

The numbers back up the freakout. Between the three of them, Anderson, Hunter and Clowney combined for 35.5 sacks last season alone, with Anderson ranking 3rd in the league, Hunter 8th and Clowney 20th. Houston already had the No. 1 total defense and the No. 2 scoring defense in the NFL in 2025 without Clowney in the building. Now they're bolting a 66.5-career-sack veteran with 120 tackles for loss onto the side of a defense that was already elite.

For Clowney, this is closing a loop. He was the No. 1 overall pick who spent his first five NFL seasons in Houston before bouncing to Seattle, Tennessee, Cleveland, Carolina, Baltimore and Dallas over the back half of his career. At 33, he's not the same freak athlete who terrorized combines a decade ago, but last year's stat line proved he's still got real juice left, especially in big spots — that Giants game was his best single outing since 2023.
The scary part for the rest of the AFC is that this isn't a finished product yet — it's training camp, and Clowney gets to work himself into the rotation alongside two guys already playing at an All-Pro level. If Houston's front seven stays healthy, opposing offensive coordinators are going to be building entire game plans around just trying to survive third down. The Texans didn't need to get scarier. They did anyway.
