Falcons training camp took a scary turn on Tuesday when Jalon Walker went down during practice and had to be carted off the field. Teammates gathered around him before he was taken away, never a good sign, and the early word was an apparent lower-leg injury.

It didn't take long for that early word to get worse. Ian Rapoport reported Walker is feared to have suffered a torn ACL, a devastating update for a guy who was just starting to look like a foundational piece of Atlanta's defense.

Adam Schefter followed with more details on the injury, and per NFL.com the injury happened during an 11-on-11, two-minute drill in a non-padded session, with Walker set for an MRI to confirm the diagnosis. If it's confirmed, it likely wipes out his entire 2026 season before it even starts.

Walker was the No. 15 overall pick in the 2025 draft, the first Georgia Bulldog the Falcons have ever taken in the first round, and the centerpiece of a draft night that saw Atlanta also trade up for fellow edge James Pearce Jr. He inked a four-year rookie deal worth $20.56 million, and as a rookie he flashed real ability, appearing in 15 games with 5.5 sacks, 36 tackles and 2 forced fumbles.
That production made Walker one of the more promising young pieces on a Falcons defense that badly needs pass rush juice. Losing him for the year, on top of whatever it does to his rookie-deal trajectory, is a gut punch for a team trying to build around Michael Penix Jr. and take a step forward in a loaded NFC South. For now, everyone's just waiting on the MRI to make it official.
