Jennings, meanwhile, was reportedly the favorite to lock down the third running back job after working his way back from a stint on the non-football injury list. That plan is now on hold. Landing on IR just hours before the preseason opener against the Colts is a rough break for a guy who looked like he'd finally earned a real shot at a roster spot.
For New England, it's a simple math problem: a body left the room, so a body had to come in.
