Dallas made one of the more surprising cuts of the whole cutdown weekend when it waived Jaydon Blue, the running back it drafted with a 5th-round pick just last year. It didn't take long for him to land somewhere else. Adam Schefter was first to report the Eagles were bringing him aboard the practice squad.

That got confirmed fast and from multiple directions. Clarence Hill Jr. and Calvin Watkins, both plugged deep into the Cowboys beat, backed up the same landing spot within minutes of each other.

The disappointing part is that Blue was supposed to be a steal. Texas produced a 4.38-second 40-yard dash at the combine, a pass-catching skill set out of the backfield, and Dallas took him at No. 149 in the 2025 draft hoping for exactly this kind of home-run juice behind their offensive line. It never showed up. He got hurt in training camp as a rookie, Javonte Williams took over the workload, and Blue finished his first season with just 129 yards and a touchdown while missing most of the schedule.
Blue himself was blunt about what went wrong, telling The Athletic's Jon Machota that immaturity was part of it: "Maybe if it was not practicing the right way or just on a maturity level, I think I wasn't really there." He talked up being ready to go entering this season, but that wasn't enough to save a roster spot once cutdown day arrived.
Now he's heading to the NFC East rival that just watched him get let go, which is its own small gut-punch for a Cowboys fan base already picking through a chaotic cut list. A practice squad spot isn't a roster spot, but it's a runway — the Eagles clearly think there's still juice in that speed and pass-catching profile even if Dallas gave up on it.

For now it's a depth move, nothing more. But Philadelphia has a habit of finding value on the fringes of its roster, and Blue landing in a building with real offensive infrastructure could end up being the best thing that happens to his career. Worth tracking whether Dallas regrets giving up on him this cheap.
