Tyson banged up his hamstring in a joint practice against the Jaguars in mid-August, and the injury history around him wasn't exactly a secret going in — the same issue cost him multiple games in his final season at Arizona State, though Saints coach Kellen Moore had maintained the new injury was unrelated to that prior history. Reports out of camp pegged his recovery timeline at roughly 2 months, which lines up with mid-October and tracks with the 4-game floor being reported now.
The pick itself was a real bet. New Orleans took Tyson 8th overall out of Arizona State, making him the first Sun Devil drafted in the first round since Brandon Aiyuk in 2020 and the first ASU player taken in the top 10 since Terrell Suggs back in 2003. He put up 158 catches for 2,282 yards and 22 touchdowns in his college career, including a 1,101-yard, 10-touchdown season in 2024 — the kind of profile that made him one of the more decorated receivers in this class.
None of that matters for the next month-plus. A rookie WR1-in-waiting now watches the Saints' season opener from the sideline, and New Orleans has to figure out its receiver room without the guy they used a top-10 pick on just 4 months ago.
