Kyler Gordon back for Bears vs. Falcons, Xavier Woods cut

TLDR: The Bears activated slot corner Kyler Gordon off Reserve/PUP for his season debut Sunday in Atlanta, putting Dayo Odeyingbo on IR and releasing safety Xavier Woods to clear room.
Chicago dropped its moves the way the beat said it would, right as the team plane left for Atlanta.
#Bears have restored CB Kyler Gordon to the 53-man roster. DE Dayo Odeyingbo has been placed on injured reserve. DB Nick McCloud signed to the 53-man roster from the practice squad. S Xavier Woods had his contract terminated.
Gordon is the headline, and he's been gone a long time. A calf injury kept him out of June minicamp and all of training camp, and he opened 2026 on PUP, which ruled him out for at least the first 4 games. He was designated to return to practice on Sept. 30 and stayed on the practice window until now. This is also the guy Chicago gave a 3-year, $40 million extension in 2025, and he played only 5 games last season. The Bears are paying a lot for a slot corner who hasn't been on the field much, and the front office hasn't hidden how frustrated it's been.
Bears corner Kyler Gordon (calf, PUP) is set to make his season debut Sunday, per sources. His role will likely be limited as Chicago eases him back, but he’ll be activated off his 21-day practice window.
Don't expect a full workload. The plan is reportedly to ease him in with a limited role. Even part-time Gordon changes the room, though. Bears On SI expects him back in the slot, which moves Malik Muhammad outside and could bench Tyrique Stevenson, who is questionable with a hamstring anyway. Defensive coordinator Dennis Allen put it simply: "I think that Kyler can help us win games."
The cost is a rough one on the edge. Odeyingbo hurt his quad against Green Bay in Week 5 and goes to IR, so he's out at least 4 games. He'd been leading the team in pressures. With Montez Sweat serving a 2-game PED suspension, the Bears' pass rush in Atlanta is going to be thin.
Woods is the one who gets cut. The veteran safety came in as a patch after Coby Bryant's training-camp knee injury, which is expected to cost Bryant most of the season. Woods played 4 games with 12 tackles and a fumble recovery. Nick McCloud takes the roster spot from the practice squad, and Cam Lewis is expected to start next to Dillon Thieneman at safety.
Additionally, LB Buddy Johnson and RB Zavier Scott have been elevated from the practice squad for Sunday’s game at Atlanta.
Those 2 elevations are about injuries too. Buddy Johnson brings linebacker depth with T.J. Edwards and Keyshaun Elliott banged up, and Zavier Scott becomes a running back option with Kyle Monangai ruled out again with turf toe. Caleb Williams is also listed as questionable. That's a lot of injury news, and the healthiest thing on the depth chart right now is a corner coming off a calf injury that cost him the summer. Watch how many slot snaps Gordon actually gets Sunday. If he finishes healthy, Chicago finally has the player it paid for.
