This has been building for a while. Williams was entering the final year of the 3-year, $64.5 million deal he signed back in March 2024, five months after Seattle acquired him in a midseason trade from the Giants. The Seahawks reportedly have an internal policy of only extending players with one season left on their contract, which made this summer the window to get something done.
Williams himself downplayed the talks in late July, saying there had been "a few conversations, but nothing set in stone." But the market moved fast around him. The Eagles just signed Jalen Carter to a 4-year, $152 million extension, averaging $38 million annually, which instantly made Williams' $21.5 million average look light for a guy widely regarded as one of the league's top interior defenders.

The production backs up the price tag. Williams has been a Pro Bowler in both of his full seasons in Seattle and earned second-team All-Pro honors in 2025, racking up 18 regular-season sacks over his tenure with the Seahawks plus a run through the playoffs that ended in a ring.
A new deal also brings some cap relief. Williams was slated to carry a $29.64 million cap number in 2026, and spreading that out over a fresh 3-year extension gives Seattle more flexibility as new ownership settles in and the front office tries to keep this roster's window open.
Nothing's officially signed yet, but with Fowler's report landing and both sides clearly motivated, expect ink on paper soon. For a defense that just won it all, locking down the guy in the middle of it is about as low-risk a move as Seattle can make.
