The Falcons aren't messing around with their core anymore. Matthew Bergeron just signed a 4-year, $96 million extension to stay in Atlanta, and it's the kind of move that tells you exactly where this front office's priorities are.

That's a massive commitment for an interior offensive lineman, and it comes with $60 million guaranteed, according to ESPN. Bergeron was set to hit free agency at season's end, so Atlanta made sure that never happened.
Bergeron's path to this payday isn't flashy, but it's exactly the kind of résumé teams pay for. A second-round pick out of Syracuse in 2023, the Canadian lineman has started 49 games at left guard and missed only 2 last season. He's been a fixture next to left tackle Jake Matthews, and the results show up in the run game — Atlanta's offense led the league in yardage off the left side of the line last year, per ESPN, with 1,119 yards and 9 touchdowns behind that duo.
This isn't a one-off either. Bergeron is the third Falcons player to get a long-term extension in the last 2 months, joining wide receiver Drake London and tight end Kyle Pitts Sr. GM Ian Cunningham called him "the type of player you build around," and that's basically become the front office's whole offseason strategy — pay the guys who show up every week before somebody else does.
The one name still missing from that list is Bijan Robinson, who's currently holding out during training camp waiting on his own extension. Atlanta clearly has the appetite to keep paying its own, so it's now a question of when — not if — that gets sorted out. For now, though, the offensive line just got a lot more expensive and a lot more secure.
