Micah Parsons Set to Miss Start of Packers Season With Torn ACL

Micah Parsons himself says Weeks 1 through 5 are off the table as he recovers from a torn ACL, a massive early blow for Green Bay.

Green Bay gave up two first-round picks and Kenny Clark to land Micah Parsons and then handed him a 4-year, $188 million deal that made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. The idea was that Parsons would walk into Lambeau and immediately become the best defensive player on the roster. Instead, he's opening his Packers tenure on the shelf.

The injury dates back to Week 15 of last season, when Parsons tore his ACL against the Broncos while still a Cowboy. He also needed a follow-up procedure to clean up his meniscus. That combination is why the timeline keeps sliding — and now it's Parsons himself putting a number on it.

An update on Micah Parsons' timeline to return... from Micah Parsons himself. Weeks 1-5 look to be off the table for Green Bay's best defensive player.

Weeks 1 through 5 being off the table lines up with what's been trickling out of Green Bay all offseason. A new NFL rule lets PUP-list players return as early as Week 5, but given the meniscus cleanup on top of the ACL repair, that always looked like a best-case scenario rather than a realistic one.

The number everyone's actually circling is Week 6 — Oct. 18 at Lambeau against the Cowboys, the team that just traded him away. Parsons has called that matchup a realistic, if unguaranteed, target for his debut in green and gold.

For a Packers defense that just paid $47 million a year for its new centerpiece, missing the first month-plus is a real problem, not a rounding error. Green Bay still has to navigate the early schedule without its best pass rusher, and every week Parsons stays out pushes the payoff on that blockbuster trade further down the calendar.

The silver lining, if there is one, is that Parsons is talking recovery in months, not seasons, and insists he'll come back better than before. Whether that's Week 5, Week 6, or later, Green Bay's defense is going to look a lot different once he actually suits up.
