Micah Peavy lands Thunder two-way, reunites with Sorber

TLDR: Micah Peavy, the No. 40 pick in 2025, has agreed to a two-way deal with the Thunder 4 days after Memphis cut him, and he's back with Georgetown teammate Thomas Sorber.
Shams broke it Friday afternoon, and Peavy's long, strange week got a happy ending.

Former Pelicans second-rounder Micah Peavy has agreed on a two-way NBA deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder, sources tell ESPN.
The last few months have been a ride for him. New Orleans took Peavy 40th overall in the 2025 draft, and he played 61 games as a rookie, about 15 minutes a night, with 4.3 points and 0.7 steals. The jumper never really came along (25.9% from 3), but the Pelicans kept giving him minutes because he guards. Then they traded him to Memphis in the offseason, and the Grizzlies waived him Monday in a roster crunch. An ankle sprain that bugged him through camp and the preseason reportedly didn't help his case.
OKC had an opening because of bad news. Otega Oweh, the Thunder's 2026 second-round pick and one of their 3 two-way guys next to Brooks Barnhizer and Josh Dix, ruptured his Achilles in the preseason and is done for the year. That leaves a two-way spot for Peavy and turns a sad week into a pretty smart pickup.

Thunder add Peavy to the two-way an interesting pick up played at Georgetown with Thomas Sorber
The Georgetown connection is the fun part. Peavy went the long way through college: 1 year at Texas Tech, 3 at TCU, then a super senior year with the Hoyas where he averaged 17.2 points, 5.8 boards, 3.6 assists and a Big East-best 2.3 steals. Sorber was the freshman big on that team. Now they're back in the same building, and Sorber didn't exactly play it cool about it.

Looks like Thomas Sorber is excited about his former Georgetown teammate Micah Peavy signing a two-way deal with OKC
Peavy also fits what OKC does. The Thunder win by wearing teams out with long, annoying defenders on the wing, and a guy who led the Big East in steals is right in that lane. A two-way deal means most of his year will probably be in Oklahoma City's G League setup with a few NBA games mixed in. Still, this is a front office that turns overlooked second-rounders into real rotation guys about as well as anyone. Landing here might be the best outcome Peavy could have hoped for when Memphis let him go Monday.
What to watch: whether the ankle is fully healed, and whether the 3-point shot shows up. If he can make defenses respect him from the corners, the defense keeps him on the floor and he can play his way into a bigger role. If not, at least he's got his old college big man around to help him settle in.
