NaQuari Rogers Signs With West Virginia After Court Win

College football's eligibility wars just gave West Virginia a running back in late September. NaQuari Rogers, who played last season at Utah, won his case in an Indiana courtroom on Wednesday. That same night his rep said he's headed to Morgantown. He went from courthouse to commitment in 1 day, which is about as 2026 as college football gets.

According to On3's Pete Nakos, Rogers has run for 1,598 yards and 11 touchdowns in his career. That's real production from a guy who has bounced around. Fox Sports' player page traces his path from Campbell to New Mexico, where he ran for 382 yards and 5 touchdowns on 74 carries in 2024, and then to Utah for the 2025 season. In Salt Lake City he split the backfield with Wayshawn Parker.

This isn't his first eligibility fight either. The same Fox Sports page says Rogers got eligibility once before through a temporary restraining order from a Dallas judge. Now an Indiana court has granted him an injunction for a 5th year. At this point the guy has a better record in court than a lot of Power 4 programs have on Saturdays.

The injunction is the story behind the story. The NCAA's eligibility clock has been under legal fire from every direction, and players keep finding judges willing to stop it. Every time one of these rulings comes down, a veteran who was supposed to be done becomes a free agent. Coaches with a thin depth chart are going to take that call.

For West Virginia it's pretty simple. You're adding a Power 4 back with more than 1,500 career yards in the middle of the season, and you didn't give up anything to get him. Nobody has said yet when he'll be cleared to play, how fast he can learn the offense or where he'll fit in the rotation. Signing a running back this late in the year is not normal, and neither is the legal fight that made it possible.

What to watch next: whether the NCAA tries to fight the Indiana ruling, and how quickly Rogers shows up on a Mountaineers depth chart. If the injunction holds, West Virginia just got a Big 12 backfield boost that nobody saw coming a week ago.
