In the clip, Smokes' exact words were: "Honestly, I think kinda what ruined it was like how Dave did Vegas." Dave's version: "Honestly Dave saved Vegas cause it absolutely sucked till he got involved." Then came the trademark "don't gut it" sign-off. It's classic Portnoy. He doesn't argue with a quote, he just rewrites it and hands it back to you. The real problem is that both versions agree Vegas sucked. They only disagree about whose fault that was.

The 'saved it' line isn't new either. Portnoy has said on X that Annika wasn't invited to Spring Break because everybody was sick of the Annika/Smokes storyline, that she begged her way on and promised not to run it back, and that she ran it back immediately, so he "had to save the show." In Dave's telling, the Smokes storyline was the disease and he was the cure. That's why this one stings more than a typical podcast jab.

Smokes didn't take the edit quietly. 16 minutes after Dave's post, he answered with a different theory of the crime, one that doesn't depend on who was in the producer's chair.

Vegas sucked cause the whole cast changed for no reason. What we had in Jersey was perfect. Whatever shows over anyway, idgaf. Just gave my opinion.

That's a smarter argument than "Dave ruined it." Smokes is pointing at the casting. He calls the Jersey run "perfect" and says Vegas changed the whole cast "for no reason." That's a shot at a decision, not just at a vibe, and casting is exactly the part Portnoy controls. Then he follows it with "Whatever shows over anyway, idgaf," which is the most Smokes way possible to say he cares a lot.

The line worth noticing is "shows over anyway." Neither Dave nor the company has said anything about the series' future in these posts, so treat that as Smokes' read and not an announcement. Still, it's hard to picture a quick Season 3 casting call that starts with the guy who just said the boss broke the show. Watch whether Dave keeps it to one fixed-quote dunk or brings it to a stream. History says the second option is a lot more likely.
