Bears activate Noah Sewell, sit Kyler Gordon for Packers

Some good news and some familiar news out of Halas Hall on Saturday afternoon, and Brad Biggs had both in one tweet.
Start with the good. Sewell tore his Achilles late last season and opened 2026 on the PUP list. Now he's back for a division road game. He's not a star, but he's useful. He made 54 tackles in 2025, a career high, with 3 tackles for loss and a forced fumble, and he started 9 games. Since Chicago drafted him in 2023 he has played in 35 games. Expect him to be a backup linebacker and a special teams body, which is exactly what a roster that's been patching holes needs going into Lambeau.
The second move came minutes later, and it's about the running back room.
Scott is up from the practice squad because Kyle Monangai has been ruled out. It's a standard gameday elevation, so he goes back to the practice squad after Sunday. He spent 2025 with the Vikings, played all 16 games and put up 114 rushing yards plus 14 catches for 98 yards. So he's depth, not a savior. Still, Bears fans will take a guy who's seen NFC North football over an empty roster spot.
Then there's the annoying part. Gordon has been dealing with a calf injury since May. He practiced in full for 2 straight weeks and went into Friday listed as questionable, and the Bears still didn't pull him off PUP. Sunday will be the 5th straight game he misses. DL Shemar Turner, a 2025 2nd-round pick coming back from a torn ACL, stays on PUP too. Sewell's activation takes the roster spot that one of them would have filled.
The clock on Gordon is real. Chicago has until October 20 to activate him or shut him down for the year, and there are 2 games before that deadline: Atlanta on October 18 and New England on October 22. After a 2025 where soft-tissue injuries held him to 3 games, being careful with the slot corner makes sense. It's also getting old. Biggs said the wait is at least 1 more week, so look at next week's practice reports and the Falcons game as the real target.
