PFT Commenter gifts Macrodosing's madconroy9 ALCS tickets

TLDR: PFT Commenter surprised Macrodosing's madconroy9 with tickets to see the Guardians play the Rays in the ALCS in person, then turned the gift into a bit about Marlins Man.

Cleveland is 1 win into the ALCS, and one of the Guards' loudest fans in the Barstool building has just been told she'll be in the stands.

AWESOME move by PFT!!!

The timing makes it a great gift. The Guardians went into Tropicana Field as underdogs on Monday night, fell behind 2-0 in the 1st and came back to beat the heavily favored Rays 7-3, with Nathaniel Lowe's 2-run single in the 8th putting them ahead for good. That makes it 1-0 Cleveland, and the series heads to Progressive Field for Games 3 and 4 on Thursday and Friday. The clip's captions mention Game 4 and getting out of work early, so it's a decent guess which night she's going, but nobody has said exactly which game the tickets are for.

Not everybody saw this coming. Back on September 30, while the Cave crew was sweating out Wild Card Game 1, somebody on the Barstool Gambling Cave stream made the case for a Guardians pennant run and got shouted down for it.

“I want the Guardians to go to the ALCS.”

Two weeks later Cleveland is there, and PFT is sending a Guards fan to watch it in person. Then, being PFT, he couldn't just leave it as a nice thing. Within the hour the gift had turned into a running joke about Marlins Man, the guy in the orange jersey who turns up behind home plate at every big sporting event in the country, and whether he'd ever show up in Cleveland.

You know ive heard this very nasty rumor since 2016 and I dont think it’s true. Marlins Mans far too humble to let something like that affect his decision making. Its about the game, not about feeding his own ego

@PFTCommenter @madconroy9 He doesn’t go to Cleveland because he can’t be front and center on tv behind home plate

That's PFT doing the character, all fake sincerity, defending Marlins Man's honor against a rumor he won't actually spell out. The 2016 date is the giveaway, though: that was the year Cleveland hosted the World Series against the Cubs. Whatever the 'nasty rumor' is, it's a joke and not a report, and the punchline works without anyone explaining it.

Now it's on the Guardians. Game 2 is Tuesday night in St. Petersburg before the series comes home, and if Cleveland takes care of business, madconroy9 gets a packed Progressive Field with a chance to push the Rays toward elimination. And if there's an orange jersey behind the plate, PFT is going to want a picture.
