Tom Scibelli's Batman & Robin Rip Breaks Super Critics

Super Critics doesn't need a big swing to get people talking, but going after Batman & Robin is about as easy a target as exists in movie history. The 1997 Joel Schumacher flick has been a punchline for almost 30 years, and Tom Scibelli pulled up to the podcast with a full list of grievances ready to go.

This week @TomScibelli returns to Super Critics to discuss BATMAN & ROBIN, and he's got notes....

The setup is the whole appeal of Super Critics: put someone with strong opinions in front of a poster and let them pick apart a movie scene by scene. Batman & Robin gives Scibelli a ton to work with — nipple suits, ice puns, George Clooney doing his best Adam West impression — and by the sound of it, he didn't hold back.

Scibelli himself pushed the episode hard on his own timeline, framing it as a bid to stay the show's top guest of all time. That's not nothing coming from someone who's clearly done this before and knows the bar.

By the next morning, Robbie Fox was calling it the biggest Super Critics opening weekend on record, with talk of the episode getting bumped up to IMAX and Infinity Vision screens. That's the kind of number usually reserved for the flagship Barstool shows, not a segment built around riffing on a 27-year-old Batman movie.

Scibelli followed it up the next day still riding the wave, telling people it's a great day to wake up and watch Super Critics with some fans already calling it the best episode the show has ever put out. Whether that holds up long term or fades in a week is besides the point right now — for one weekend, a guy tearing into Batman & Robin's rubber suits and bad puns turned into one of Barstool's bigger stories.
