Titans WR Wan'Dale Robinson was checked for a concussion after a violent hit from a former teammate, but Ian Rapoport says early signs are positive.

Wednesday's joint practice between the Titans and Bears turned ugly fast. Wan'Dale Robinson caught a pass across the middle and got drilled by Bears safety Xavier Woods, a former Titan, in a collision violent enough to send him to be evaluated for a concussion. Titans head coach Robert Saleh didn't mince words afterward, calling the hit "cheap."

The play blew the practice up. Titans center Austin Schlottmann and left guard Peter Skoronski both went after Woods immediately, and Skoronski later said the hit was "totally uncalled for in a practice thing like this." Not exactly the vibe you want two weeks before the regular season.

The good news landed Friday. Ian Rapoport reported that Robinson isn't believed to have suffered a concussion, though the team will keep monitoring him to make sure symptoms don't show up later.

#Titans WR Wan'Dale Robinson, who was checked for a concussion yesterday after joint practice, is not believed to have suffered one, source says. The team will continue to monitor him to make sure concussions symptoms don’t arise. But positive early indications.

It's a significant sigh of relief for Tennessee. Robinson signed a 4-year, $70 million deal with the Titans this offseason, and he's positioned as a top target for Cam Ward as the rookie quarterback settles into the starting job. Losing your highest-paid pass catcher to a concussion scare in preseason practice is the kind of thing that ruins a training camp.

ProFootballTalk quickly amplified the update, underscoring just how closely the injury was being tracked around the league.

For now it's a scare and not a setback. But with the Titans still finalizing their offense around Ward heading into Week 1, expect Robinson's practice reps and any lingering symptoms to get watched closely over the next several days.
