Christian Yelich RBI triple opens World Series for Brewers

TLDR: Brewers captain Christian Yelich drove in the first run of the World Series with a first-inning RBI triple vs. the Rays, and William Contreras followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0.
Yelich got his first career World Series at-bat in the bottom of the 1st at American Family Field, and he wasted no time with it.

He pulled it into the right-center gap. Jonny DeLuca laid out in center and the ball got off his glove, and Jackson Chourio came around to score. The ball came off the bat at 103 mph, with an expected batting average of.630. That is not a lucky triple. That is a rocket that a center fielder very nearly turned into a highlight of his own.
The big deal is who hit it. Yelich has been the face of this franchise since his 2018 MVP season, and the postseason has mostly given him heartbreak since then. Now he wears the C, and he's the guy who put the first run of the Fall Classic on the board.

Before this month Christian Yelich had gone since 2018 without an RBI in the postseason Now he has the first RBI in the World Series
Read that again. A former MVP went years of Octobers without driving in a single postseason run, then got his first World Series RBI in his first World Series at-bat. And the history nerds found something even better within minutes.

The last player before Christian Yelich with an RBI triple in his first career World Series game: Curt Flood! In Game 1, 1964, vs. Al Downing.
Curt Flood, 1964. That's the company Yelich is in now, and it took 62 years for somebody else to do it. Milwaukee didn't let the Rays catch their breath, either. Contreras swung at the very first World Series pitch of his career and smoked it off Taylor Walls' glove at short, and it was 2-0 before Tampa Bay knew what hit them.
That 108.4 mph line drive put Jacob Misiorowski on the mound with a cushion before he'd even settled in against Nick Martinez and the Rays. Neither franchise has ever won a World Series, so every run in this series is going to feel enormous. The Brewers got 2 of them in the 1st, both from their best-known hitters, and the captain got the party started.
