Jackson Chourio gets 4 hits as Brewers rout Rays in Game 3

TLDR: Jackson Chourio, 22, got 4 hits in Game 3, the youngest player to do it in a World Series game since 1946, as the Brewers beat the Rays 10-0 to go up 3-0.

Chourio came into Game 3 with multiple hits in both World Series games. Then the fifth inning happened, and it would not end.

Milwaukee went into the fifth up 2-0, and every run after that scored with 2 outs. A replay review on Junior Caminero's throw to second loaded the bases instead of ending the inning, and it got out of hand fast: 7-0, then Sal Frelick made it a 6-run inning, then David Hamilton made it 9-0. With the inning still going, Chourio came up for his second at-bat of the frame and doubled to make it 10-0. That was his second hit of the inning and his fourth of the night, and it was still only the fifth.

INNING IS STILL GOING! JACKSON CHOURIO MAKES IT 10-0 BREWERS

Once you have 4 hits by the fifth, people start looking up the record. Nobody has ever had more than 5 in a World Series game. Only 2 guys have 5, and one of them is a Brewer.

Jackson Chourio needs one more hit tonight to tie the all-time record for hits in a World Series game. 5 Paul Molitor, 1982 Game 1 5 Albert Pujols, 2011 Game 3

Paul Molitor did it for Milwaukee in Game 1 of the 1982 Series. Albert Pujols did it in Game 3 in 2011, which was also the 3-homer game. Chourio had 4 innings left to get 1 more hit.

The crazy part is that the whole inning nearly didn't happen. Christian Yelich was originally called out at second for what would have been the third out. The call got overturned, and the Brewers kept going until they had 8 two-out runs.

Christian Yelich was originally called out at second base for the final out of the fifth. Instead the call was overturned and the Brewers scored EIGHT two-out runs

According to the AP, it's the first time a team has scored 8 runs with 2 outs in a World Series inning. The old record was 7, set by the 2007 Red Sox and the 2010 Giants. Chourio didn't get a 5th hit, and the score stayed 10-0 the rest of the way. Still, he earned himself a spot in the record book next to a guy who played in the 1940s.

Foul Territory: Jackson Chourio (22) becomes the youngest player to tally four hits in a World Series game since Joe Garagiola (20) in 1

Joe Garagiola got his 4 hits in Game 4 of the 1946 Series, a 12-3 Cardinals win at Fenway. He went on to a long career on TV, so a lot of people know him better as a broadcaster than as a catcher. Chourio, meanwhile, has been the best hitter in this series. Milwaukee's lineup isn't missing pitches, isn't letting up, and is now 1 win from a title. Game 4 is the Rays' last chance to keep it from being a sweep.
