Zach Holland, a former college golfer who reportedly played in the Barstool Classic, has resigned his membership at WingHaven Country Club in O'Fallon, Missouri after admitting he faked a hole-in-one during a member-member tournament.
According to ESPN, Holland told his playing group he needed to step away to take a call about his ill grandmother and that he'd tee off ahead of them on the par-3 4th hole and meet them on the green. Instead, he drove up, dropped his ball directly into the cup, and waited for his group to arrive so he could sell the miracle shot.
The story fell apart the way most of these do: cameras. Club staff pulled security footage that showed Holland driving near the 4th green well before his scheduled tee time, directly contradicting the story he told his group. Confronted with the tape, Holland admitted to club officials that he'd faked the whole thing.
There was real money on the line too. ESPN reported the tournament had a hole-in-one prize pot attached to it, though Holland has maintained the payout wasn't his motivation. "There's no excuse for what I did, and I was completely in the wrong," he told the outlet, adding in a separate interview with ESPN Radio, "You do something as dumb as I did, there are consequences for that." Those consequences included his resignation from WingHaven, plus what he's described as online threats directed at his family.
Barstool piling onto this one isn't a surprise given the Barstool Classic tie — a fake ace from a guy who's actually played in that event is exactly the kind of story that rockets through Barstool's orbit.
