Eagles put Dameon Pierce on IR, sign Jaydon Blue

TLDR: The Eagles put Dameon Pierce on injured reserve Wednesday and called up Jaydon Blue, and Saquon Barkley then missed a second straight practice Thursday, 3 days before Sunday night in Washington.
Pierce went on IR Wednesday afternoon. He was the Eagles' third running back to land there this season, and the wire got there fast.

Another #Eagles RB to IR. Dameon Pierce down at least four games as Jaydon Blue gets signed to the roster.
Pierce is out for at least 4 games, because that is the minimum stay on IR. It hurts. Philly had only had him for 3 games, against Jacksonville, Carolina and Dallas on Monday night, and he had 96 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns. Tank Bigsby went to IR after getting hurt against the Rams. Will Shipley followed a week later. Pierce makes 3 Eagles backs on IR.
The Eagles called up Jaydon Blue to replace him. Dallas took Blue out of Texas in the 5th round of the 2025 draft, and he had 129 yards on 34 carries for the Cowboys before they waived him at final cuts. He has been on the Philly practice squad all year and already had one short stint on the 53, ahead of Week 6. The Eagles also added guard Evan Beerntsen, receiver Quentin Skinner and DB Shaun Wade to the practice squad. That was the minor part of the day. The real problem was the running back room.

#Eagles have had six different players get snaps at RB. Could be more this Sunday vs. Washington. The six (snaps in parentheses): Dameon Pierce (151) Will Shipley (104) Saquon Barkley (101) Tank Bigsby (63) Elijah Mitchell (14) Carson Steele (3)
Look at those snap counts. Pierce leads the room with 151. Barkley, who is supposed to be the whole offense, has 101, and the 3 backs ahead of or near him are all on IR now. Six guys have taken a handoff for this team. Elijah Mitchell and Blue are the healthy ones left at practice, and neither has taken a meaningful snap this year.
Barkley is no sure thing either. He came back from a hamstring injury Monday night against the Cowboys, hurt his back and played 10 snaps in the loss. He was a DNP at Wednesday's walkthrough. On Thursday he missed practice again, and so did DeVonta Smith.

#Eagles Practice Report for Thursday: DNP – RB Saquon Barkley (hamstring/back), LB Jihaad Campbell (hamstring/quad), WR Britain Covey (knee), CB Jonathan Jones (hamstring), WR DeVonta Smith (hamstring), WR Dontayvion Wicks (ankle). LIMITED – DB Michael Carter (abdomen), S Marcus Epps (jaw/concussion evaluation), OLB Jonathan Greenard (ankle), OLB Jalyx Hunt (knee/ankle), DT Moro Ojomo (neck), OLB Nolan Smith (concussion). FULL – LB Zack Baun (shoulder), CB Jakorian Bennett (knee), G Landon Dickerson (pectoral), OLB Arnold Ebiketie (shoulder), TE Dallas Goedert (knee), C Drew Kendall (knee), LB Smael Mondon (knee), G Tyler Steen (shoulder).
That is 6 DNPs. Barkley, Smith and Dontayvion Wicks sat both days, and Smith's hamstring plus Wicks' ankle leave the receiver room as thin as the backfield. If Barkley can't go Sunday night against the Commanders, the Eagles' lead back could be a guy who was on the practice squad last week. Friday's injury report will be the first real sign of what this offense looks like in Washington.
