Jon Gruden rips Texans, Jets on Gruden Family Football

TLDR: On the Week 8 Gruden Family Football Show, Jon Gruden tore into the 2-5 Texans over his 4 T's, while a Jets segment on the same set had a grown man near tears.

Houston is on its bye this week, which means Gruden had a whole week of tape to stew over. He used every second of it.

The Texans have me so mad I'm screaming about the four T's! Travel agents, tailors, tackling and the TUSH PUSH!!!

Travel agents, tailors, tackling and the tush push. Half of that list is a bit, and nobody should take it as a scouting report on the Texans' flight bookings or their suit fittings. The tackling part is not a joke, though. Houston went into the break at 2-5 after losing in overtime at home to the Giants. That was a game the Texans were favored to win by more than a touchdown, and their defense gave up 420 yards to a New York team on its third starting quarterback of the season.

Then there's the tush push. Gruden has spent years defending the play as the Eagles run it, arguing that the push only works with great linemen and that banning it would be like banning talent. So when he puts it on a list of things the Texans are botching, it lands differently than it would coming from a guy who wants it outlawed. He isn't mad the play exists. He's mad that Houston can't run it.

The Texans weren't the only team getting it. The Jets segment on the same Halloween-dressed set went in a different direction. The tweet says New York has reached the point of bringing a grown man to tears. That's a joke about how miserable it is to be a Jets fan right now, not a literal report of someone sobbing on set.

The national numbers guys aren't much kinder to the Jets than the guy on that set. On his Week 7 takeaways show, Warren Sharp grouped the Jets and Texans together as teams whose defenses have to carry them, and he didn't hold back about New York.

“Your defense has to make up for that by being elite, and the Jets are not elite. They're not elite in any phase of the game.”

This is the show working the way Barstool pictured it when it brought Jay Gruden in this summer to sit next to his brother. Jon gets to be Jon, yelling about alliteration and slamming a binder, and the clips spread across every Barstool account by dinner. The full Week 8 episode, built around which teams are real contenders, is out now.

Houston has the bye to fix the tackling, and maybe call the travel agent too. If the Texans come back and get gashed again, expect the list to grow past 4 T's next week.
