Canucks put Filip Chytil on IR, recall Jacob Quillan

TLDR: The Canucks put Filip Chytil on injured reserve Friday after he aggravated an upper-body injury, and recalled Jacob Quillan, who has 5 goals in 5 games for Abbotsford.
General manager Ryan Johnson made the move official Friday afternoon, and it's the one Canucks fans were dreading.

This isn't a new injury. Chytil hurt his upper body in the preseason, started the year on IR and didn't make his season debut until October 15 against Florida. He didn't practice Friday, got ruled out for Saturday's home game against Toronto, and went back on IR after aggravating the same injury. That's a long run of bad luck for a guy whose career has been defined by time on the shelf.
It's also a real hole in the lineup. Chytil has played 7 games and has 2 assists, so he wasn't lighting it up on the scoresheet, but Vancouver was leaning on him heavily. He's averaging 19:53 a night, more than 3 minutes above his career high. You don't just plug those minutes back in with a call-up.
Which brings us to Quillan, who has made Abbotsford look like a beer league since coming over from Toronto.

Quillan has five goals and two assists in five games for Abbotsford since going west in the Raty trade. #Leafs
That's 7 points in 5 AHL games since he went west in the Raty trade. Small sample, sure, but nobody gets a recall by scoring at that pace and then gets sent to the press box. If he draws in, Quillan's Canucks debut lines up perfectly: Saturday, at home, against the Leafs, the team that just traded him away.
What to watch next: how long Chytil's out after re-aggravating an injury that already cost him the first chunk of the season. The early reporting says he'll miss multiple games. The other question is whether Quillan can carry his Abbotsford scoring over to the NHL. If he does it against Toronto right out of the gate, Leafs fans are going to hear about it.
