Mintzy Runs It Back: Vegas Panic to Stool After Dark in 12 Hours

Mintzy closed out a 3-night Panic run in Vegas at 1am pacific, then dragged himself onto a Chicago flight to make Stool After Dark the same night. The steam room dream did not survive the turnaround.

If you have followed Mintzy for any length of time, you know the pattern. Widespread Panic announces a run, Mintzy clears the schedule, and the timeline turns into a real-time setlist diary for 3 nights straight. The Vegas stand was no different — Van Morrison, Warren Zevon and Tom Petty covers on night 1, a balcony revival on night 2, and a Sunday closer that he had been mentally tailgating since the lights came up the night before.

Night 2 in the books — balcony singalongs to Climb to Safety and Tall Boy, with the one-song encore left as a tab to settle on Sunday.

Sunday night in Sin City is exactly the kind of show that wrecks a 42-year-old's travel schedule, and Mintzy flagged it himself. The 9pm pacific start times are brutal on paper and worse in practice when you have a Monday in Chicago waiting on the other side. He even tried to give away a spare ticket after a late bail, which tells you everything about how locked in he was on getting bodies in the building for the closer.

The pre-show admission that late Vegas starts hit different at 42.

These 9pm pacific start time for Vegas shows aren’t for the faint of heart at 42 years old

The show did what Vegas Panic shows do — Low Spark, Goin' Out West, Papa's Home, the whole degen-friendly late slate — and rolled past 1am pacific. Which is where the logistics caught up to him. Up at 8, out the door, no time for the steam room ritual he had clearly been planning as part of the recovery package. So he did the next best thing and crowd-sourced a Plan B from the timeline mid-flight.

The in-transit ask: a spa near Midway, fast, before Stool After Dark.

Mintzy: En route to Chicago.

Show didn’t end til 1am pacific & got up at 8 to make flight so didn’t make steam room.

This is the Mintzy bit in miniature. The man will fly across 2 time zones on 4 hours of sleep to honor a content commitment, and the only thing he is genuinely upset about is missing his sweat. Dan DiOrio was already teeing up the Monday night episode, so bailing was never on the table — it was just a matter of how rough the landing was going to be.

Touchdown in Chicago — steam room missed, flight made, show on.

Mintzy: See you in a few hours @stoolafterdark.

Didn’t make the steam room but ain’t missing any more flights https://t.co/Sq0

No spa, no problem. Mintzy says he is redeeming the steam room another day, and based on the track record there is no reason to doubt him. He will be back in Vegas chasing another late encore inside a month, and somewhere in between he will find a hot rock to lay on. Until then, the only redemption arc that matters is the one happening on a Chicago set tonight.
