Barstool reacts to Nathan Fielder's You Can See Everything

TLDR: Nathan Fielder's Elizabeth Holmes documentary You Can See Everything hit theaters October 16, and by Sunday morning Barstool's movie crowd had seen it, with TJ calling his shot that Steven Cheah will hate it.

Eric Nathan got his take out first, a spoiler warning and a talking-head video posted Sunday morning.

You Can See Everything thoughts and spoilers ahead

If you've managed to dodge this thing, here's what Nate's talking about. You Can See Everything is the new Nathan Fielder film, co-directed with Lance Oppenheim and released by A24. It follows Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes and her partner Billy Evans, who let a film crew in during the weeks before Holmes went to federal prison for defrauding investors. Nobody knew it existed until it premiered as a secret screening at Telluride on September 6. That's a very Nathan Fielder way to drop a movie.

Critics have gone nuts for it. As of opening weekend it's sitting at 99% on Rotten Tomatoes across 110 reviews, and Yahoo reports a 99 on Metacritic. That's the kind of hype where a lot of people go in expecting a masterpiece and come out arguing with each other in the group chat. One more thing to know before you buy a ticket: it runs 174 minutes. Almost 3 hours of Elizabeth Holmes.

Then about 20 minutes after Nate's video, TJ walked out of the theater with a prediction that has nothing to do with the film itself and everything to do with a coworker.

Also been thinking about this since I left the theater: Steven Cheah is going to HATE this movie

Jesus Christ what a rollercoaster. That is NOT a documentary. I felt physically uneasy for half the movie. I love Nathan Fielder and have for years. Somehow every one of his ventures outdoes the last in emotional weight, legitimacy as a media product, and also execution to make a point or have an impact. This is his peak. I do not see how he can possibly Nathan Fielder harder than he Nathan Fielders in “You Can See Everything”. I look forward to his Oscar speech for Best Documentary (although again I don’t even know if you can call this a documentary). I’m left with 1000 questions and a handful of concerns. What a ride. I can’t believe this movie exists. I kept looking at Connor with my jaw on the floor. Also: the fact that Nathan Fielder was working on this project secretly while also actively learning how to pilot a commercial 747 for “The Rehearsal” S2 is one of the most astonishing accomplishments in film and television history.

TJ didn't say why, so you're left guessing. The runtime is the obvious suspect. The funny part is that Cheah is no couch-streamer who'd bail 40 minutes in. Talking about movies on the Yak this week, he made a point of being a theater guy.

“I usually don't stream movies at home, like, I'm going to the theater.” – Steven Cheah

So if Cheah goes, he goes all in: a seat in the dark, popcorn, and 174 minutes of a Theranos founder and a Nathan Fielder camera crew. Which is exactly why TJ's call is fun. Either Cheah sits through the most talked-about documentary of the year and hates it on the record, or TJ has to eat it on air. Somebody should get Cheah a ticket and roll tape when he comes out.
