Ohio is handing the keys to Nick Poulos. Pete Thamel reported the Bobcats have named the transfer their starting quarterback for 2026, and he'll make his first career start in Week 1 at Nebraska.

The path here is not a typical one. Poulos didn't come up through a blue-blood recruiting pipeline — he started at Chaffey College before moving on to El Camino CC, then landed at Ohio in 2024. He spent last season stuck behind Navarro on the depth chart, which is why, despite being a veteran, he's got exactly one start to his name at Ohio.
In his career at Ohio he’s appeared in 12 games and thrown for 290 yards and two touchdowns. He’s also rushed for 183 yards and a score, averaging 5.1 yards per carry.
That thin résumé doesn't mean he hasn't shown flashes. In 12 career appearances at Ohio, Poulos has thrown for 290 yards and 2 touchdowns, but the more interesting number might be on the ground — 183 rushing yards and a score on 5.1 yards per carry, per Thamel. For a Bobcats offense replacing its starting quarterback, top running back, and entire offensive line this offseason, having a guy who can create with his legs matters.
On3's Pete Nakos confirmed the same news independently, reporting Ohio is naming Poulos the guy for 2026 with the Week 1 assignment at Nebraska locked in.
Ohio is naming quarterback Nick Poulos its starting quarterback for the 2026 season, sources tell @On3. He’ll get the Week 1 start at Nebraska. https://t.co/qugAqY8HLt
The opener itself is no gimme. Ohio and Nebraska have never played each other, and the Bobcats will be walking into Memorial Stadium in Lincoln on Sept. 5 to open the season. Ohio is coming off a Frisco Bowl win over UNLV to close out 2025 under interim-turned-full-time head coach John Hauser, so there's real momentum behind the program — it's just going to collide with a first-time starter making his debut on the road against a Power 4 opponent.
It's a lot to ask of a guy who's bounced between three schools to get here. But Ohio clearly likes what it saw enough to bet the season opener on him, and Poulos will get an immediate, national gut-check on whether that trust was earned.
