This isn't some random injury pulled out of thin air. Basallo had been quietly dealing with shoulder discomfort that got aggravated on a swing during Sunday's win in Houston. He tried to play through it, but Baltimore ultimately shut him down rather than risk further damage to a guy who's supposed to be catching for this franchise for the next decade.

And that's the part that stings. Basallo isn't some org filler — he's MLB Pipeline's No. 8 overall prospect, a switch-hitting slugger who signed an eight-year, $67 million extension with Baltimore last August before he'd even locked down a permanent roster spot.
