To catch up: Strzelecki signed a minor league deal with Milwaukee back in February, got his contract selected up to the big leagues in mid-May, then got designated for assignment the very next day without ever appearing in a game. He cleared waivers and elected free agency on May 20 rather than accept a Triple-A outright assignment, a path only available to him because he'd already been outrighted before in his career.
That kicked off a stretch that would give any reliever whiplash. Strzelecki signed a minor league deal with the Yankees just a few days later, lasted less than a month in that org, and opted out of that contract too. From there he circled right back to where he started, agreeing to another minor league deal with the Brewers in late June and heading to Triple-A Nashville.
Now, less than a month after that reunion, he's opted out again. It's the kind of bouncing that happens to veteran relievers who are good enough to keep getting big league invites but not established enough to lock down a roster spot outright. Strzelecki has posted respectable numbers in Triple-A this year, and journeyman arms with that kind of track record tend to find work fast in late July when every contender is desperate for bullpen depth.
The timing matters here. With the trade deadline bearing down, teams looking to patch a bullpen on the cheap now have another arm to kick tires on without giving up any prospect capital. Whether Strzelecki lands with a contender chasing October or a rebuilding club just trying to see what they've got, this feels like far from the last time his name pops up on the transaction wire this season.
