Every legend needs an origin story, though, and it turns out this one runs through a random bar and Nicky Smokes' dad.

That's the entire chain: some anonymous barfly inspires a kid, the kid grows up to become Ronny Doitche, and decades later Doitche ends up shaking hands with the dad who watched it happen the first time. Stoolies Clubhouse summed up the meetup as "like LeBron meeting Jordan," which is the kind of hyperbole this deserves.
Doitche has made a real living off this bit. He's talked about drinking as many as 38 beers in a single day and has openly said travel costs are the only thing slowing down his nationwide chug tour, hence the GoFundMe to keep chasing bigger competition. So watching him meet the guy Nicky Smokes credits as the actual source material is a bigger deal in this corner of the internet than it sounds.

A guy who's presumably seen every kind of chug in his lifetime, including the one that supposedly inspired Doitche, still can't get over watching the current king do it live.
