Scottie Scheffler started the final round 3 shots back of Viktor Hovland and finished it as the best golfer alive, again. A 5-iron to 2 inches on the 2nd hole got things going, and by the time the round was over he'd shot a 4-under 66, won the Tour Championship by 1 stroke, and claimed his second FedEx Cup title. It's his 3rd win of the 2026 season.

That near-ace on 2 was the moment the whole day turned. Scheffler used it to close the gap on Hovland with a 25-foot birdie on 4 that tied the two atop the leaderboard, then he took the outright lead for the first time on the 13th hole and never gave it back, even after a couple of late bogeys threatened to open the door.

Hovland, for his part, had every chance to hang on and couldn't. He came in tied for the lead late but the back nine turned into a putting horror show, with short misses piling up at the exact wrong time.

He closed with a 72 and finished alone in second, 1 shot short. It's the kind of collapse that's brutal in the moment but says more about how Scheffler closes than how Hovland fell apart.
Scheffler wasn't exactly in a chatty mood afterward. Asked whether anything was bothering him mentally out there, he shut the question down cold at the podium.

The bigger number from the day has nothing to do with the leaderboard. Scheffler's $10 million winner's check pushed his career PGA Tour earnings to $130,390,661, passing Tiger Woods for the most in Tour history — a mark Woods had held for 26 years. Woods never even played for a purse that big during his prime, when Tour money was a fraction of what it is now. That's context, not an excuse — Scheffler's just been that dominant.
Between the trophy, the FedEx Cup, and now the all-time earnings record, the Player of the Year conversation isn't much of a conversation anymore. And whatever's next for him, it's clear the kids back at the tent don't care about any of it.
