White Sox Dave Now Owes Big Cat Weekly Banana Bread

White Sox Dave bet against his own team and lost, and now he's stuck baking Big Cat a loaf every single week.

White Sox Dave didn't have much faith in the 2026 White Sox. So little faith, in fact, that he made a bet with Big Cat over whether the team would beat last year's win total. The terms were simple: if Dave was right and the Sox came up short, Big Cat pays him $1,000. If Dave was wrong, he's on the hook for a homemade banana bread every week, indefinitely.

Dave lost. The White Sox stumbled to a 60-102 season in 2025, one of the worst in franchise history, which made "beat that total" about as low a bar as a bet can clear. They got there, Dave was wrong, and now there's a standing weekly banana bread tax on his life.

The Stretch Run crew laid out how the bet worked and rolled tape on week one of Dave's banana bread duty.

This isn't Dave's first rodeo in the kitchen, either. He's baked banana bread for the office before and actually won a bakeoff against Chef Donny, a classically trained cook, in what got called an upset on the level of Buster Douglas over prime Mike Tyson. So the bar going in was that Dave can actually bake. Which makes what happened next a little more embarrassing.

Because loaf number one, by Dave's own admission, was not good. No hiding behind the bet, no spin — he came out and said it stunk.

This week’s banana bread stunk. I will be better

For a guy who beat a French-trained chef in a blind taste test, admitting week one "stunk" is a real gut check. Now it's a running bit with a built-in accountability clock — every week, another loaf, another chance for Big Cat and the internet to grade it. The 2026 Sox are currently projected around 64.5 to 67.5 wins on the futures market, so this bet isn't ending anytime soon, and neither is Dave's baking arc.

The real story here isn't really about wins and losses on the South Side — it's about a bad bet turning into a weekly bit that's only going to get funnier if Dave keeps missing the mark. Loaf two is already on the clock.
